54. Al-Qamarالقمر

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

1. ٱقْتَرَبَتِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ وَٱنشَقَّ ٱلْقَمَرُ١1

   The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two].^[1577]

   Listen from ayah 1
2. وَإِن يَرَوْا۟ ءَايَةً يُعْرِضُوا۟ وَيَقُولُوا۟ سِحْرٌ مُّسْتَمِرٌّ٢2

   And if they see a sign [i.e., miracle], they turn away and say, "Passing magic."^[1578]

   Listen from ayah 2
3. وَكَذَّبُوا۟ وَٱتَّبَعُوٓا۟ أَهْوَآءَهُمْۚ وَكُلُّ أَمْرٍ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ٣3

   And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement.

   Listen from ayah 3
4. وَلَقَدْ جَآءَهُم مِّنَ ٱلْأَنۢبَآءِ مَا فِيهِ مُزْدَجَرٌ٤4

   And there has already come to them of information that in which there is deterrence.

   Listen from ayah 4
5. حِكْمَةٌۢ بَـٰلِغَةٌۖ فَمَا تُغْنِ ٱلنُّذُرُ٥5

   Extensive wisdom - but warning does not avail [them].

   Listen from ayah 5
6. فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْۘ يَوْمَ يَدْعُ ٱلدَّاعِ إِلَىٰ شَىْءٍ نُّكُرٍ٦6

   So leave them, [O Muḥammad]. The Day the Caller^[1579] calls to something forbidding,

   Listen from ayah 6
7. خُشَّعًا أَبْصَـٰرُهُمْ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ ٱلْأَجْدَاثِ كَأَنَّهُمْ جَرَادٌ مُّنتَشِرٌ٧7

   Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading,

   Listen from ayah 7
8. مُّهْطِعِينَ إِلَى ٱلدَّاعِۖ يَقُولُ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا يَوْمٌ عَسِرٌ٨8

   Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day."

   Listen from ayah 8
9. كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ فَكَذَّبُوا۟ عَبْدَنَا وَقَالُوا۟ مَجْنُونٌ وَٱزْدُجِرَ٩9

   The people of Noah denied before them, and they denied Our servant and said, "A madman," and he was repelled.

   Listen from ayah 9
10. فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنِّى مَغْلُوبٌ فَٱنتَصِرْ١٠10

    So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help."

11. فَفَتَحْنَآ أَبْوَٰبَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ بِمَآءٍ مُّنْهَمِرٍ١١11

    Then We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down

    Listen from ayah 11
12. وَفَجَّرْنَا ٱلْأَرْضَ عُيُونًا فَٱلْتَقَى ٱلْمَآءُ عَلَىٰٓ أَمْرٍ قَدْ قُدِرَ١٢12

    And caused the earth to burst with springs, and the waters met for a matter already predestined.

13. وَحَمَلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ ذَاتِ أَلْوَٰحٍ وَدُسُرٍ١٣13

    And We carried him on a [construction of] planks and nails,

    Listen from ayah 13
14. تَجْرِى بِأَعْيُنِنَا جَزَآءً لِّمَن كَانَ كُفِرَ١٤14

    Sailing under Our observation as reward for he who had been denied.

    Listen from ayah 14
15. وَلَقَد تَّرَكْنَـٰهَآ ءَايَةً فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ١٥15

    And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember?

    Listen from ayah 15
16. فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ١٦16

    And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.^[1580]

    Listen from ayah 16
17. وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ١٧17

    And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

    Listen from ayah 17
18. كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ١٨18

    ʿAad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

    Listen from ayah 18
19. إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ رِيحًا صَرْصَرًا فِى يَوْمِ نَحْسٍ مُّسْتَمِرٍّ١٩19

    Indeed, We sent upon them a screaming wind on a day of continuous misfortune,

    Listen from ayah 19
20. تَنزِعُ ٱلنَّاسَ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ مُّنقَعِرٍ٢٠20

    Extracting the people^[1581] as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted.

    Listen from ayah 20
21. فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ٢١21

    And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

    Listen from ayah 21
22. وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ٢٢22

    And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

    Listen from ayah 22
23. كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِٱلنُّذُرِ٢٣23

    Thamūd denied the warning.

    Listen from ayah 23
24. فَقَالُوٓا۟ أَبَشَرًا مِّنَّا وَٰحِدًا نَّتَّبِعُهُۥٓ إِنَّآ إِذًا لَّفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ٢٤24

    And said, "Is it one human being^[1582] among us that we should follow? Indeed, we would then be in error and madness.

    Listen from ayah 24
25. أَءُلْقِىَ ٱلذِّكْرُ عَلَيْهِ مِنۢ بَيْنِنَا بَلْ هُوَ كَذَّابٌ أَشِرٌ٢٥25

    Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar."

    Listen from ayah 25
26. سَيَعْلَمُونَ غَدًا مَّنِ ٱلْكَذَّابُ ٱلْأَشِرُ٢٦26

    They will know tomorrow who is the insolent liar.

    Listen from ayah 26
27. إِنَّا مُرْسِلُوا۟ ٱلنَّاقَةِ فِتْنَةً لَّهُمْ فَٱرْتَقِبْهُمْ وَٱصْطَبِرْ٢٧27

    Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient.^[1583]

    Listen from ayah 27
28. وَنَبِّئْهُمْ أَنَّ ٱلْمَآءَ قِسْمَةٌۢ بَيْنَهُمْۖ كُلُّ شِرْبٍ مُّحْتَضَرٌ٢٨28

    And inform them that the water is shared between them,^[1584] each [day of] drink attended [by turn].

    Listen from ayah 28
29. فَنَادَوْا۟ صَاحِبَهُمْ فَتَعَاطَىٰ فَعَقَرَ٢٩29

    But they called their companion,^[1585] and he dared^[1586] and hamstrung [her].

    Listen from ayah 29
30. فَكَيْفَ كَانَ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ٣٠30

    And how [severe] were My punishment and warning.

    Listen from ayah 30
31. إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ صَيْحَةً وَٰحِدَةً فَكَانُوا۟ كَهَشِيمِ ٱلْمُحْتَظِرِ٣١31

    Indeed, We sent upon them one shriek [i.e., blast from the sky], and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen.

32. وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ٣٢32

    And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

    Listen from ayah 32
33. كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍۭ بِٱلنُّذُرِ٣٣33

    The people of Lot denied the warning.

    Listen from ayah 33
34. إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حَاصِبًا إِلَّآ ءَالَ لُوطٍۖ نَّجَّيْنَـٰهُم بِسَحَرٍ٣٤34

    Indeed, We sent upon them a storm of stones, except the family of Lot - We saved them before dawn.

    Listen from ayah 34
35. نِّعْمَةً مِّنْ عِندِنَاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِى مَن شَكَرَ٣٥35

    As favor from Us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful.

    Listen from ayah 35
36. وَلَقَدْ أَنذَرَهُم بَطْشَتَنَا فَتَمَارَوْا۟ بِٱلنُّذُرِ٣٦36

    And he had already warned them of Our assault, but they disputed the warning.

    Listen from ayah 36
37. وَلَقَدْ رَٰوَدُوهُ عَن ضَيْفِهِۦ فَطَمَسْنَآ أَعْيُنَهُمْ فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ٣٧37

    And they had demanded from him his guests, but We obliterated their eyes, [saying], "Taste My punishment and warning."

38. وَلَقَدْ صَبَّحَهُم بُكْرَةً عَذَابٌ مُّسْتَقِرٌّ٣٨38

    And there came upon them by morning an abiding punishment.

    Listen from ayah 38
39. فَذُوقُوا۟ عَذَابِى وَنُذُرِ٣٩39

    So taste My punishment and warning.

    Listen from ayah 39
40. وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ٤٠40

    And We have certainly made the Qur’ān easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?

    Listen from ayah 40
41. وَلَقَدْ جَآءَ ءَالَ فِرْعَوْنَ ٱلنُّذُرُ٤١41

    And there certainly came to the people of Pharaoh warning.

    Listen from ayah 41
42. كَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كُلِّهَا فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُمْ أَخْذَ عَزِيزٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍ٤٢42

    They denied Our signs, all of them, so We seized them with a seizure of one Exalted in Might and Perfect in Ability.

    Listen from ayah 42
43. أَكُفَّارُكُمْ خَيْرٌ مِّنْ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكُمْ أَمْ لَكُم بَرَآءَةٌ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ٤٣43

    Are your disbelievers better than those [former ones], or have you immunity in the scriptures?

    Listen from ayah 43
44. أَمْ يَقُولُونَ نَحْنُ جَمِيعٌ مُّنتَصِرٌ٤٤44

    Or do they say, "We are an assembly supporting [each other]"?

    Listen from ayah 44
45. سَيُهْزَمُ ٱلْجَمْعُ وَيُوَلُّونَ ٱلدُّبُرَ٤٥45

    [Their] assembly will be defeated, and they will turn their backs [in retreat].^[1587]

    Listen from ayah 45
46. بَلِ ٱلسَّاعَةُ مَوْعِدُهُمْ وَٱلسَّاعَةُ أَدْهَىٰ وَأَمَرُّ٤٦46

    But the Hour is their appointment [for due punishment], and the Hour is more disastrous and more bitter.

    Listen from ayah 46
47. إِنَّ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍ وَسُعُرٍ٤٧47

    Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness.^[1588].

    Listen from ayah 47
48. يَوْمَ يُسْحَبُونَ فِى ٱلنَّارِ عَلَىٰ وُجُوهِهِمْ ذُوقُوا۟ مَسَّ سَقَرَ٤٨48

    The Day they are dragged into the Fire on their faces [it will be said], "Taste the touch of Saqar."^[1589]

    Listen from ayah 48
49. إِنَّا كُلَّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَـٰهُ بِقَدَرٍ٤٩49

    Indeed, all things We created with predestination.

    Listen from ayah 49
50. وَمَآ أَمْرُنَآ إِلَّا وَٰحِدَةٌ كَلَمْحٍۭ بِٱلْبَصَرِ٥٠50

    And Our command is but one, like a glance of the eye.

    Listen from ayah 50
51. وَلَقَدْ أَهْلَكْنَآ أَشْيَاعَكُمْ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍ٥١51

    And We have already destroyed your kinds,^[1590] so is there any who will remember?

    Listen from ayah 51
52. وَكُلُّ شَىْءٍ فَعَلُوهُ فِى ٱلزُّبُرِ٥٢52

    And everything they did is in written records.

    Listen from ayah 52
53. وَكُلُّ صَغِيرٍ وَكَبِيرٍ مُّسْتَطَرٌ٥٣53

    And every small and great [thing] is inscribed.

    Listen from ayah 53
54. إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَنَهَرٍ٥٤54

    Indeed, the righteous will be among gardens and rivers,

    Listen from ayah 54
55. فِى مَقْعَدِ صِدْقٍ عِندَ مَلِيكٍ مُّقْتَدِرٍۭ٥٥55

    In a seat of honor near a Sovereign, Perfect in Ability.^[1591]

    Listen from ayah 55
